Community Snow Observations at Maple Villa Glade

Have you ever wondered how scientists predict natural occurrences like avalanches and floods? The Community Snow Observations (CSO) network is an organization that focuses on measuring snow depth and variability to make predictions like these—and they need our help!

On March 14th, from 10-11:30am, we will join AMC Research Intern Madelyn Wood at Maple Villa Glade for a Community Snow Observation demonstration and info session. Madelyn will show us how to take snow depth measurements and then record this data in an app that scientists use for research purposes.

After we learn about CSOs, and finish recording our measurements, a member from the Granite Backcountry Alliance will share about the history of Maple Villa Glade & the Ware Preserve. This glade has a long history of recreational ski use including the old Intervale Ski Area and CCC trail. When GBA partnered with USVLT to purchase the Ware Preserve, it made access to backcountry skiing at the Maple Villa Glade possible. You can expect a short hike on trails, likely with snowy/wet conditions.

This is a free event, but registration is required. Register Here!
